Dedications and Themes
Rise sets the stage for a journey, identifying elements of resistance, be they internal or external and highlighting the inner voice of guidance. This song is dedicated to my Baubie of blessed memory who always encouraged her grandchildren to pursue their dreams along “whichever path” we would choose.
On The Bow, an instrumental fiddle tune, driven by the acoustic and rhythmic elements of guitar, piano, and mandola, captures a sense of building movement within a journey. Interwoven with the violin melody, each layer adds an element of escalating nuance within a unified theme.
Signposts, the EP title track, is ripe with imagery of the encounters one may have ‘along the way’. These encounters may surprise, reassure, cajole, or comfort - and this list is not exhaustive. Rich with the ambient sounds of electric guitar and Rhodes organ, this song evokes a sense of mystery and illumination.
Likrat Shabbat is the arrival. Of course every arrival is a new beginning. An intersection of journeys is also alluded to. The rhythmic guitars intertwine with dynamic vocals to signify the ebb and flow of energy as the journey reaches a crescendo and then settles calmly into the next phase. This song is dedicated to my brother, Adin, and his fiancée, Amy, in honour of their upcoming wedding.
